"Although there is no water, making it risky to plant, there are things that can be done to get started.
Weed your plot. Best to do it before the tilling is done.
Add your amendments and soils etc, if you plan too. I noticed a few plots have sunken. The soil level should be the same as your path for best results. This to, is best done before the tiller gets to your plot.
Path weeding: You are responsible for the South and West paths next to your plot. Paths should be weeded ALL THE WAY to your neighbor’s plot. Using a tool to loosen the weeds before you pull gets the best result. Roots are just starting to grow so getting the weeds out now makes for less work later and at the end of the season.
If you need bark mulch in your path, you can add it now. two inches or so is usually sufficient.
Cold crops can go in: Cabbage, Peas, Chard, Kale, Lettuce, Brussell Sprouts, and Celery are examples of plants that can tolerate early spring weather. If it is windy and below 40 degrees you will need to think about how to protect the plants overnight.
The food pantry plots now have shallots, garlic, lettuce seeds, turnips, and radishes. Also onions which are under a white covering called a frost blanket.
Hope all are well. Don’t forget your mask and gloves when coming to the garden."
